Three Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents were shot and injured Thursday while serving "high-risk" warrants during an early morning sweep of San Francisco Bay area gang members, authorities said.
The federal government agreed on Thursday to pay $11 million to the relatives of three women who were killed when an on-duty immigration agent ran a stop sign in 2009.
The Homeland Security Department has appointed a public advocate to handle complaints and questions about its immigration enforcement policies. The appointment of Andrew Lorenzen-Strait, a senior adviser at Immigration and Customs Enforcement, was announced Tuesday.
Luke McCormack will move to the department from the Immigration and Customs Enforcement directorate at the Homeland Security Department. He takes over for Van Hitch who retired in July.
