Patent Office commissions review of telework abuse

The Patent and Trademark Office has hired the National Academy of Public Administration to review the agency's vaunted telework programs following allegations that teleworkers are falsifying their timecards and managers do not have the tools to monitor them.

Subpoena issued for former HHS CTO

House Republicans issue a subpoena for Todd Park, former CTO of HHS, to testify about his role in launching Healthcare.gov. Park has already refused to testify before the House Science Committee five times, according to committee chairman Lamar Smith. The White House says it has the subpoena and will not stop Park from testifying.

FBI narrows down final locations for new headquarters

The House Oversight and Government Reform Subcommittee on Government Operations wants to know how agencies plan to dispose of and consolidate more than 7,000 federal properties worth $350 billion. On the same day, the FBI announced the finalists for the site of its consolidated relocation.

Lawmakers respond to IRS email scandal with new regulations

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee members approved the Federal Records Accountability Act, which mandates preservation of digital correspondence. The committee also passed the Searching for and Cutting Regulations that are Unnecessarily Burdensome Act, which would establish a presidential committee to find and review outdated, burdensome, costly or obsolete regulations.

Lawmakers, OPM seek facelift for aging GS system

There's growing consensus on Capitol Hill and from the Obama administration that the pay and personnel system used by the federal government since 1949 and infrequently updated is showing its age and due for a major facelift. Lawmakers probed the General Schedule system Tuesday during a hearing before the House Oversight and Government Reform Subcommittee on the Federal Workforce, U.S. Postal Service and the Census.
