The Defense authorization bill has been on the Senate calendar, and off the Senate calendar. Now it's on again. The Senate majority leader is now promising to bring a 2011 defense authorization bill to the floor for a vote.

Recrafted cyber bill contains emergency powers

A cybersecurity measure still in draft form would give President Obama additional powers. The proposed legislation would permit the President to declare an emergency if there's a threat to the nation's electrical grid.

Schmidt says cyber coordination on upswing

White House cyber coordinator says using secure identity cards and working more closely with industry among his top short term priorities. He says a new strategy to secure online transactions also is on track for the President's signature this fall. And he's closely watching Capitol Hill as Senate lawmakers may be close to completing draft of consolidated cyber bill.

House passage of Senate jobs bill would end DoT furloughs

Senate also considering separate extension bill that would end furloughs, but Sen. Bunning has put hold on it. Transportation furloughs 2,000 employees and stops 41 major construction projects because it doesn't have funding.
