Army scientists and engineers are advancing sensors research in hopes of giving future soldiers enhanced situational awareness. Soldiers of 2025 and beyond may wear sensors to help detect and prevent threats like dehydration or elevated blood pressure. Dr. Donald Reago is the director of the Night Vision and Electronic Sensors Directorate at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. He joined Tom Temin on the Federal Drive with more on the possibilities.

Ft. Belvoir welcomes double amputee as garrison commander

Fort Belvoir, DISA headquarters reopen after storm

Most of the power has been restored at Fort Belvoir, as of Tuesday morning. The base will operate under open status on Tuesday, with all employees expected to report to work on time.

Moran wins reprieve for DoD agencies; no BRAC move until 2014 at earliest

A Northern Virginia lawmaker is successful in making the case to the Pentagon for a delay to give more than three dozen DoD agencies in Arlington County and the City of Alexandria two more years to make their move to new secure facilities under the BRAC process. Rep. Jim Moran (D.-Va.) says new buildings and infrastructure at Fort Belvoir simply aren't ready, and in the meantime, wants to ease the financial pressures on DoD landlords until the moves can happen.

House panel learns BRAC is in the home stretch

The Pentagon faces a deadline of September 15th, 2011, by which it has to complete all the work of BRAC -- the Base Realignment and Closure process. That means either closing, or making adjustments to, military facilities all across the country. Yesterday, a key House subcommittee got a progress report on BRAC from Pentagon officials.
