Katie Maddocks, Government Affairs representative, Federal Managers Association

The second session of the 113th Congress is ticking away and the opportunities to produce meaningful legislation are sliding by. Reps Frank Wolf (R-Va.) and Jim Moran (D-Va.) are planning to retire when their current terms are up. Katie Maddocks, a government affairs representative for the Federal Managers Association, talks to In Depth with Francis Rose about what congressional changes would mean for the federal workforce in the coming months.

Supercommittee's failure to reach deal brings range of reactions

The administration, lawmakers and others are sounding off on the failure of the supercommittee to reach a deal for cutting more than $1 trillion from the deficit. Facing automatic, across-the-board cuts half from defense and half from civilian agencies, beginning in 2013 the consensus now seems to be Congress should work to come up with an alternative deficit-reduction plan.
