A Republican congressman yesterday introduced draft legislation to take the air traffic control system private. It would split the FAA in half, privatize the operational part and hand it over to the employees. The bill is sponsored by Rep. John Mica (R-Fla.), former chairman of the House Transportation Committee. On the Federal Drive with Tom Temin, Mica admits this isn't his first attempt to change things.

The FAA has taken some steps to help protect its air traffic control systems from hackers and cyber criminals. But there's still work to be done. That's according to a new report from the Government Accountability Office. Some of the weaknesses were new, like identifying and authenticating users. Other date back years. Calvin Scovel III, Matthew Hampton, Transportation Department

The Federal Aviation Administration will not meet its deadline for safely integrating all drones in the U.S. An inspector general report finds that the FAA has failed to establish a regulatory framework for training and certification of drone pilots. Cal Scovel is the inspector general for the Transportation Department, and Matt Hampton is the assistant inspector general for aviation. Scovel explained the Congressional mandate that FAA has to meet when he joined Tom Temin on the Federal Drive.
