Air Force cites progress on F-22 oxygen mystery

Pentagon restricts F-22 flights, safety a concern

A top Air Force General outlined steps taken to make sure jet pilots don't black out. Two whistleblower pilots recently said the F-22 oxygen delivery system was faulty, causing a condition known as hypoxia.

DoD extends contract for Lockheed's F-22 Raptor

The new ceiling on the deal is $7.4 billion. The planes have never been used in combat and have in fact been grounded several times due to ongoing issues with the Onboard Oxygen Generating System and other malfunctions.

The Senate voted to terminate further production of the Air Force's topline F-22 fighter jets Tuesday, giving President Barack Obama a major spending victory and siding with the Pentagon's desire for smaller jets better suited to 21st century wars. F-22 supporters complained the action would be a blow to long-term national defense - and cost thousands of jobs in the middle of the recession.
