GSA, Energy going alternative to run its buildings

DoE wants to make all of its roofs white or light color to help reduce the amount of heat buildings absorb. GSA is testing solar panels, geo-thermal and solar chimneys in different buildings around the country. The goal is to help reduce the government's $25 billion annual energy bill.

OMB, CIO Council issues new IPv6 guidance

Agencies must make their data networks compliant with the IPv6 protocol now. The government and private industry face a looming crisis as Internet addresses defined by an increasingly dated technical protocol run out, possibly as early as next year. Energy contracts help agencies reach green goals

DoE set up Energy Savings Performance Contracts with several different companies to work under a share-in-savings approach to reduce agency utility bills. Agencies do not have to pay upfront costs to move electricity or other infrastructure away from fossil fuels.
