DHS continues effort to right-size management structure

Since its creation in 2003, the Department of Homeland Security has been on the Government Accountability Office "high risk" list precisely because of lingering problems linked with trying to manage the super-agency that emerged with the shotgun marriage of 22 separate agencies. Now a Senate oversight panel holds its latest hearing to review efforts to shore up the management of DHS.

DHS mandates department-wide telework, COOP review this week

With numerous cases suggesting the spread of swine flu on college campuses in recent weeks, medical experts continue to recommend preparation for a possible H1N1 pandemic this fall. The Undersecretary of Management for one of the largest Federal departments is ordering agencies to test teleworkers' abilities to work away from the office and review other continuity-of-operations planning all this week.
