US military personnel may test Ebola samples in Liberia

Pentagon officials say approximately two dozen U.S. military specialists in Liberia may conduct tests on laboratory samples for Ebola, but most of the Pentagon's personnel deployed there are not expected to be in direct contact with the virus.

Dempsey: Africa Command change not tied to Libya

Panetta: New Africa Command leader to be nominated

Gen. David Rodriguez, currently head of U.S. Army Forces Command, would be the third Army general to head Africa Command, which was created in 2007.

US Army more selective on recruits, re-enlistments

The Army is slashing the size of the active duty personnel from about 570,000 at the height of the Iraq war to 490,000 by 2017. The cutbacks began last year, and as of the end of March the Army was down to less than 558,000 troops.
