OMB to hold senior officials more accountable for government waste
President Obama will issue an executive order in the next week detailing steps agencies must take to reduce the amount of improper payments. OMB will set up a new online dashboard to track these expenditures, similar to the one for IT projects. Executive order also will implement stricter requirements for contractors to report overpayments.

Daniel Werfel confirmed to be the controller in the Office of Management and Budget
Daniel Werfel will focus on three main areas as controller, getting the government to have a clean audit opinion, reducing improper payments and improving how agencies manage federal property. OMB director Orszag issues a memo asking agencies to meet the 45 day deadline to close their books, or ask for an extension by Nov. 1. Orszag says agencies may need more resources to get clean financial audits because of the Recovery Act.
