The Senate Budget Committee's markup of its FY 2016 budget resolution is under way on Capitol Hill. Committee Chairman Mike Enzi's (R-Wyo.) plan is a lot different than the one the Chairman of the House Budget Committee, Rep. Tom Price (R-Ga.), rolled out yesterday. Gordon Adams is a professor at American University and former OMB official responsible for national security budgets. On In Depth with Francis Rose, he said the House's plan to boost the Overseas Contingency Operations budget to reach the level of spending the Obama administration wants for the Pentagon is a gimmick.

Senators: More transparency needed on geospatial data spending

Sens. Mark Warner (D-Va.) and Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) introduced a bill they hope will increase transparency on geospatial data. The bill would require agencies to report how much they spend on such data, as part of annual budget submissions to the White House.

House GOP budget calls for increase in feds' retirement contributions

House Budget Committee Chairman Tom Price (R-Ga.) released his $3.8 trillion budget plan, which includes language calling for an increase to federal employees' contributions to their retirement plans. All federal employees would pay 6.6 percent of their pay into their retirement plans. The bill also increases funding to the Defense Department's Overseas Contingency Operations fund, while keeping total DoD spending under sequestration caps.
