DARPA is a groundbreaking agency -- again

Less than two years from now the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency will move into a new headquarters building in Arlington, Virginia. Before that can happen, the former Metrobus maintenance garage will require cleanup of diesel and chemical pollution in the ground. While DARPA employs fewer than 250 people, the new headquarters allows Virginia to retain more than 800 jobs because of the contracting jobs associated with DARPA, which has an annual budget of more than $3 billion.

DHS may not have the funding to work together

Homeland Security is asking for $75 million to consolidate operations and cut the number of leases from 180 to no more than 10. House lawmakers say the DHS and GSA did better in explaining how the funding would be used and where the savings would come from, but members of Congress say tight budgets may force them to spend on operational issues instead.

D.C. telecenters to lose GSA funding

Administrator Martha Johnson said changes in the way people work and the technology they have access to are major reasons why GSA will no longer guarantee a specific number of workers at the area telecenters. GSA remains committed to telework in other ways, including the launch of a new collaboration platform called FedSpace. It also awarded a contract to deploy telepresence at 15 offices around the country.

Agency Instability: GSA nominee remains in limbo

Martha Johnson seen by many as the most qualified candidate to be GSA administrator in a decade. But her nomination remains on hold in the Senate because Sen. Christopher Bond is unhappy with GSA's plans for a new federal building in Kansas City. Some call Bond's use of the hold authority an abuse of power.
