Over the last two decades, the Army has made decisions to make its reserve forces "operational" ones. The reserves participate in contingencies around the world even in peacetime, instead of having the Army only call them up in emergencies. But the chief of the Army Reserve says funding cuts are already beginning to relegate his force to the "strategic" reserve of decades gone by. Federal News Radio DoD Reporter Jared Serbu has the story.

Lt. Col. Scott Nelson, Cyber P3 program manager, U.S. Army Reserve

Cyber challenges are more prevalent than ever. That's driving the need for more people with the professional skills necessary to prevent and mitigate attacks. To that end, the Army Reserve has launched a new partnership to build its network of cyber warriors. The program is designed to train soldiers in cyber warfare for both the Reserve and private sector employers. Lt. Col. Scott Nelson is the Army Reserve's Cyber P3 Program Manager. Army Reserve emphasizes 'circle of talent'

Army leaders are encouraging active duty soldiers to consider entering the Reserves, said retiring Lt. Gen Jack Stultz, former commanding general of the Army Reserve Command. Stultz took off the uniform for the last time after a June 9 change of command ceremony.
