Army putting up $30,000 prizes for apps
Service CIO Jeff Sorenson says Apps for the Army contest will begin March 1. The first 100 individuals or teams will compete for the monetary awards for developing software that improves capabilities or addresses new challenges.

Army to test enterprise e-mail for all of DoD
Lt. Gen. Sorenson says the service will issue a RFP in the coming weeks. Then the Army will follow with a solicitation for its data center consolidation effort, called APCs. Sorenson says it will launch Apps for the Army in the coming weeks as well.

Army initiates software development changes
The service issued a memo detailing a common operating environment architecture as part of a broader software transition strategy. The strategy builds on the experiences of the Apps for the Army program. The service is developing plans for Apps for the Army 2 next summer focusing on industry-created software.
