With less money to work with, the military services has to think creatively in order to deploy its shrinking workforce.
The online, collaborative portal, managed by the Defense Acquisition University, features 400 articles on common defense acquisition topics. Each entry provides a definition, a brief narrative and links to policy guidance and other tools.
Army officials announced the service is on track to more than double a Presidential goal for investments in energy efficiency projects. Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army for Energy and Sustainability Richard Kidd, said the Army would likely invest $800 million in performance-based contracts over the next two years to realize energy savings and efficiencies at its multitude of bases and facilities.
Michele Mackin, the assistant director for Acquisition and Sourcing Management Issues at GAO, joined In Depth with Francis to discuss a recent report by GAO that found competition in some defense contracts lacking. Bill Woods, the director of Acquisition and Sourcing Management Issues, discussed efforts to create a streamlined system for federal contracting data.
The industry association, the Coalition for Government Procurement, gave Sens. Joseph Lieberman (I-Conn.) and Susan Collins (R-Maine) its highest award for using common sense in dealing with federal procurement.
