AGA web bonus: training of future accountants is critical

The Association of Government Accountants recently held their Eighth Annual National Leadership Conference at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center (February 18-19, 2010). AGA's National President Billy Morehead, spoke with Federal News Radio' Jane Norris about his mission for the AGA. As the only association President that is also an academic, (Chair of the Division of Accountancy for Delta State University) Morehead has made it his mission to work with students and prepare them for financial management careers in Federal, State and Local Government. He says that AGA has been talking with the Federal Government about establishing a robust intern program. And that on the job training, is a necessary ingredient for establishing a successful career path.

Americans need more than just transparency for trust

The public overwhelmingly believes that government has the obligation to report and explain how it generates and spends its money, but that that it is failing to meet expectations in any area included in a new survey. The AGA tries to educate the government on how to educate citizens.

Issa: Pay debate is subset of larger challenges

The Chairman of House Oversight and Government Reform Committee said Republicans can sound evil during the debate about whether feds are overpaid. But the bigger issue, he said, is the overall HR processes used across government. Issa said agencies need to have a right-size the workforce more easily.

Treasury to process all invoices electronically

All agency bureaus will implement the Internet Payment Platform by 2012. Additionally, all Treasury vendors must submit invoices through the portal starting in 2013. The electronic invoice payment program is one of 12 initiatives to improve federal financial management.
