New online toolkit aims to help agencies combat fraud

Helena Sims, the director of Intergovernmental Relations at the Association of Government Accountants, told In Depth with Francis Rose that agencies can face a variety of fraud and it's often difficult to detect all the "red flags." A new online toolkit created by the AGA aims to help agencies tackle fraud.

OMB's Werfel lays out new plan to follow agency money

Federal controller Danny Werfel to issue new guidance on measuring and fixing improper payments this week. OMB also is planning two pilot programs to improve how agencies receive and process vendor invoices, and to enhance intragovernmental transactions. Werfel also says the approach to financial management shared services is changing.

Legislation could spur XBRL use in government

Officials in the federal financial management community are continuing to watch for progress in the adoption of XBRL -- Extensible Business Reporting Language -- in financial management systems in the government. XBRL allows for the management and presentation of large "datasets" of financial and economic data on the World Wide Web.
