Marilyn Park, Legislative Representative, AFGE

A bill introduced in the House by Rep. Mark Takano (D-Calif.) would restore collective bargaining rights to health care providers at the Veteran's Affairs Department. Under the current system, nurses, doctors and dentists, among others, do not have the same bargaining rights as other federal employees. Marilyn Park is a legislative representative at the American Federation of Government Employees. She joined Tom Temin on the Federal Drive to talk more about the VA Employee Fairness Act.

Debra Roth, Partner, Shaw Bransford & Roth

An employee with the Transportation Security Administration gets her job back after being fired for being pregnant. TSA ruled Amanda Kincannon's pregnancy made her "unfit for duty" and subsequently fired her. The decision was eventually overruled by TSA's internal review board, and she was recently reinstated. The incident was made public by the American Federation of Government Employees. Debra Roth, a partner at the law firm Shaw, Bransford and Roth, joined the Federal Drive with Tom Temin to offer some more insight into this case. She said it's not exactly unheard of.

Funding for DHS expires at midnight tonight, which means Congress is quickly running out of time to pass another continuing resolution. If they don't do it today, nearly 30,000 employees will be furloughed. Among the hardest hit will be FEMA, the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Robert Autry, president of the American Federation of Government Employees Local 4060, which represents FEMA headquarters employees here in Washington, joined Tom Temin on the Federal Drive to further explain how a shutdown would impact the agency.
