Need Some Info Please

In the aftermath of the Federal takeover of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, lots of questions are arising about what exactly they are doing to stem the foreclosure tide. The New America Foundation is focusing on that subject at an event today called “Foreclosures: What are Fannie And Freddie Doing to Stem the Tide?” One of the moderators of the event was the Foundation’s Director of Fiscal Policy, Maya MacGuineas. She talked about today’s agenda.

I Can See Clearly Now

Opening up the work of the government to the public is getting a shot in the arm from a wide cross-section of groups that follow the business of government. The 21st Century Right To Know Project, consisting of groups from all over the ideological spectrum, has released a report called “Moving Toward A 21st Century Right-To-Know Agenda.” The coordinator of the project is OMB Watch. Their Director of Federal Information Policy, Sean Moulton, told me about the project, and Chris Edwards, Director of Tax Policy Studies at the CATO Institute, and Danielle Brian, Executive Director of the Project On Government Oversight, joined in the discussion about transparency in the new administration.

Getting It Done

I talked to former FEMA Director Michael Brown yesterday about how we’re not hearing much about problems at the agency, and cited a column I had read online about the agency’s effectiveness. The column is called “FEMA Falls into Array” by Jonathan Walters. He talked about the piece, and how FEMA is improving their mission fulfillment.
