August 13, 2013 — This week on “Federal Tech Talk”, host John Gilroy interviews Todd Sanders, senior partner and Enterprise Data architect at ITOTS Networks, LLC.

Sanders has hands-on experience with many of the technologies we discuss with vendors like VMware, Microsoft, and Red Hat.

What is unique about his background is that his company has a “sand box” set up where he can test a wide variety of products.

During the interview, Sanders comments on a wide range of topics.

You may have heard many terms in respect to cloud computing that are confusing.

Sanders contrasts Storage Area Networks (SAN) with Network Access Storage (NAS), talks about IPv6, and the proper way to evaluate a data center.

He details identifying hardware, physical connections, and calculating throughput.

One aspect that many people forget is estimating peaks of throughput requirements.

Because Sanders has deployed virtual servers as well as virtual desktops, he can compare the positives and negatives of the different vendors in this arena.
