Herb Jackson - Chief Acquisition Officer

Making the switch from the paper age to the digital age has been no small challenge for GPO. Jackson, a 27-year veteran at the agency, says the key has been making sure that as GPO and its mission evolved that acquisitions was not an afterthought. In fact, from the moment IT started pushing GPO into uncharted waters, Jackson says acquisition officers were brought into the decision-making process with the program offices. Not only has that enabled the coming roll-out of GPO's Future Digital System (FDsys), but it has also enabled GPO to move into the business of producing intelligent documents for agencies like the State Department and the Department of Homeland Security. He also talks about the challenge of continuing procurement activities to support the printing of documents, which are still a main part of GPO's mission despite numerous predictions of their demise.
