If you think the continuing resolution challenges your agency deals with are tough, try working at the Federal Aviation Administration. The agency’s latest temporary funding bill – its 20th since 2007 – expires tomorrow, and the House and Senate versions of bill no. 21 are different enough that a partial shutdown is possible.

A furlough of FAA employees could affect as many as 4,000 employees.

Marion Blakey, the president and CEO of the Aerospace Industries Association, served as FAA administrator from 2002 to 2007. She joined In Depth with Francis Rose to discuss how the FAA authorization process is different from other agencies and why the agency has operated for so long under temporary extensions.
