The Obama administration has set new cross-agency priority goals for managing government as part of its 2015 budget. Federal News Radio examines the eight areas identified by the White House: people and culture, customer delivery, strategic sourcing, smarter IT delivery, shared services, open data, lab-to-market, and benchmark and improve mission-support operations.
The Office of Management and Budget will collect spending and budget information from agencies to ramp up personnel security. This management priority accompanied other requests in a memo released Friday, which also included agency's benchmarking and providing customer service data.
It's hard to tell how many agencies are actually checking all the boxes on the Obama administration's plan for detecting disgruntled or rogue employees. Agencies were supposed to have taken initial steps to set up insider threat programs by June 30, according to an update posted on Performance.gov. But it's impossible to know the number of agencies who met the initial criteria so far. The progress update says that information is classified.
The Office of Management and Budget starts to see progress on a set of 15 cross-agency goals. The Cross-Agency Priorities, or CAPs, are a mix of policy and management reforms that range from stronger cybersecurity to better customer service. As of this month, OMB now has action plans for each one and tracks agency progress on Performance.gov. Now the results are trickling in. Despite steps forward, agencies fell short of their 2014 targets for cybersecurity. The Obama administration is pushing chief information officers to focus on priorities of continuous monitoring, phishing and malware, and authorization processes for 2015, according to the newly released cross-agency priority goals on Performance.gov.
