One major factor behind the Department of Veterans Affairs’ disability claims backlog is that it generally takes a long time before the Defense Department sends its medical records to VA when a military member leaves the service. A new IT system DoD installed this year was supposed to solve that problem, but according to a new inspector general’s report, things are as slow as ever.
