USDA eyes airports for alternative energy production

All that empty acreage surrounding the nation’s airport runways is ripe for conversion to alternative energy production. Solar cells and biofuel grasses could replace plain old grass and produce badly needed revenue.

The Agriculture Department, the FAA and Mississippi University are working to make this happen. Travis DeVault, project leader for USDA’s National Wildlife Research Center in Sandusky, Ohio, told The Federal Drive with Tom Temin and Emily Kopp about the project.
