CXO Surveys

Federal News Radio is conducting a series of surveys of senior leaders across government. Over the course of the year, we will research priorities and challenges faced by the CXO community. Each month we will release the results of a new survey from one of the following CXOs: CIO, CAO, CFO, CHCO and PIO.

PIO Survey Results 2013

An exclusive Federal News Radio survey of PIOs show agencies are using data to improve mission execution. Nani Coloretti, Treasury's assistant secretary for management and performance improvement officer, said prioritizing data, analyzing it in a way that makes sense to senior officials and following through on opportunities for change are among the ways to improve agency processes.

CHCO Survey Results 2013

In an exclusive Federal News Radio survey, agency chief human capital officers said sequestration is impacting training and causing delays in HR projects. However, all respondents said the hiring reforms instituted by the Obama administration are working. Most respondents said it now takes their agencies 46 to 100 days, on average, to hire new employees. Hiring reforms also have improved diversity at agencies and the ability to bring on more talented employees.

CFO Survey Results 2013

A new Federal News Radio survey finds agency financial managers have moved up to the next level and are using information and performance metrics to inform their decision making. Respondents say they are finding ways to use data to find efficiencies. Workforce training, retaining and hiring are among their top priorities. The survey is part of Federal News Radio's special report, Rise of the Money People.

Many contracting reform efforts over the past few years have focused on building up the federal acquisition workforce. Now, faced with near-crippling budget uncertainty, agency acquisition officials are worried the progress of the past few years could stall. CIO Survey Results 2013

Federal chief information officers remain concerned with securing their agencies' networks and systems. Cybersecurity ranked first in a list of CIOs priorities in new survey conducted by Federal News Radio. Also among CIOs' top priorities were moving back-office or commodity IT systems to the cloud and using IT to ease the budget pressures facing agencies. Roger Baker, assistant secretary for information and technology and chief information officer of the Veterans Affairs Department discussed the survey results on In Depth with Francis Rose.
