SAMMIES: Tech-savvy winners

At least half of the Service to America Medal winners relied on IT for their work.

The Partnership for Public Service awarded eight people with its Samuel J. Heyman Service to America Medals, or SAMMIES, with at least half of the winners relying heavily on IT for their projects.

These winners used “complicated computer models and programs to munch some heavy-duty numbers,” Government Executive reports.

One winner gathered information that stopped subs that carried drugs and possible terrorists. Another used two-way video to improve the delivery of social security benefits to residents in rural areas.
