NRC jumping into cloud, baby-stepping into mobile computing

Darren Ash, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's CIO, said the agency is reviewing vendor responses to a sources sought notice in preparation to move systems to the cloud. NRC employees also are piloting mobile devices.

DIA preparing to jump into IC's new IT environment

Grant Schneider, the Defense Intelligence Agency's chief information officer, said his agency and the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency will be among the first agencies to move its top secret/sensitive compartmentalized information into Intelligence Community's IT Enterprise program this summer. The two agencies are developing the virtualized desktop and other tools for launch in late fiscal 2013.

Navy reducing IT spending ahead of schedule

The Department of the Navy is finding real dollar savings by moving to enterprise software licenses, managing mobile devices and services better and reducing the number of printers and the amount printed. Terry Halvorsen, the DoN CIO, said they are on track to meet the goal of cutting 25 percent of their IT budget in five years.
