The Partnership for Public Service named the winners of its annual Samuel J. Heyman Service to America Medals (Sammies Awards) at an Oct. 3 gala. Click here to read about the nine federal employees and their teams who received 2013 Sammies Awards.

The awards recognize federal employees who went above and beyond in 2012 to help advance "the health, safety and well-being of Americans." This year, 31 feds (including 11 teams) were named finalists in eight categories.

Over the past several months, Federal News Radio spoke with each finalist about their work. In addition, we asked them to answer five questions about themselves.
