DorobekINSIDER Newscast
- Congress is working to approve a three-week spending bill, to keep your agency running. The existing CR expires on Friday. The new plan would shave $6 billion from federal spending. Leaders from both chambers expect it to pass. The plan would give them more time to negotiate a spending bill to last through September.
- Eight in ten federal employees now have HSPD-12 cards. OMB says 76 percent of contractors also have the cards. Nine executive branch agencies have finished giving out the cards to both contractors and employees.
- Federal agencies are struggling with the president's order to respond faster to Freedom of Information Act requests. The administration processed fewer requests in 2010 even as more people asked for information. The public sent in more than 500,000 requests but agencies acted on 12,000 fewer. The president's order dates back to January of 2009, the day after his inauguration.
- Financial problems aren't keeping the Postal Service from offering some raises. The Postal Service and the American Postal Workers Union have reached a tentative contract deal that would give 205,000 raises, totaling three point five percent, over the next four years. The Postal Service is working on separate contracts with three other unions.
