DoD advisory group evaluates science of cybersecurity

The JASON advisory group recommends how the Defense Department released a report on the scientific basis of cybersecurity.

The Defense Department is reviewing the JASON defense scientific advisory panel’s new report, Secrecy News reports.

DoD officials are taking a long look at this report because there has been some concern over the lack of any scientific basis for anything connected to cybersecurity.

The JASON report says there is a science of cybersecurity, but that it’s still undeveloped. That’s mainly because a lot of it is still experimental. A science of cybersecurity deals with things you won’t find in any other area of study. Plus, computers and networks are things that have been developed entirely by humans, making them inherently unpredictable, according to the JASON report.

The report also recommends DoD begin support for a network of cyber security research centers.
