Some comments on Federal News Radio stories about the pay freeze

A freeze is unfair.

This proposal literally makes my stomach turn. There is certainly a LOT of government waste, fraud and abuse but it is certainly not at the employee level.

It seems the federal employees are always first in line to be blamed for everything wrong in the U.S. economy and to have their pay and benefits cut, frozen, and just generally screwed over.

This is just another item added to my financial burden… I’m in favor of cutting back in a reasonable way but I think we should spread it around so that one particular group isn’t taking all of the pain.

A freeze is the ‘right thing to do.’

So Obama has finally done something right…The private sector is hurting, and it is the right thing to do for Federal employees and retirees to share in that hurt.

Will Congress’ pay be frozen too?

I’m all in favor of cutting back, but I want Congress to lead the parade by taking a pay cut, pay freeze, furlough and use the same health insurance the rest of the government workers have. No special treatment – they aren’t special.

I certainly hope that the fat-cat politicians in Congress forego their raises as well. Everyone needs to sacrifice a little during these tough financial times.
