DADT report has early release

The release of a Pentagon report on the repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell will be moved up by one day.

Defense Secretary Robert Gates says he's pushing everybody involved in the report to have it ready for release on Nov. 30, Politico reports.

Politico cites an email from Gates that says the move is mainly to accommodate the Senate Armed Services Committee, whose members have said they want to hold hearings as soon as possible.

Gay rights groups and several senators who support repealing the ban on openly gay servicemembers have also asked Secretary Gates to get the report out as quickly as possible.

Politico reports time is of the essence for supporters of repeal during this lame-duck session of Congress. Repeal language is part of a defense appropriations bill that has passed the House and cleared the Senate Armed Services Committee.
