Post-bomb plot, U.S. military presence growing in Yemen

Following last month’s discovery of bomb from Yemen, the military is stepping up its focus and presence in that country.

The Wall Street Journal reports the Defense Department has mobilized military equipment and intelligence agents. Pentagon officials said they might propose new bases as well.

Senior administration officials said the intelligence out of Yemen has been limited. But the U.S. is getting intelligence from a growing partnership with Saudi Arabia, which borders Yemen. Saudi Arabia has a network of informants in Yemen’s tribal areas.

U.S. officials told the Journal they are pushing the Yemeni government to start sending its own military and spies into tribal areas.
