Does open government actually help you do your job better? Or is it just a new requirement? If if you are going to do an open government project, are there lessons learned?

In fact, there are a handful of agencies that have attempted open government initiatives already.

One is the Homeland Security Department, which has been running an innovative National Dialogue on the Quadrennial Homeland Security Review. It was a partnership between DHS and the National Academy of Public Administration — and NAPA has just come out with an assessment of that open government process.

Lena Trudeau is a vice president at the National Academy of Public Administration and explains why DHS wanted to conduct its review in an open way.
