We have been hearing that she was in Falls Church, VA but that the official announcement hadn’t been made yet — it’s official now… 1105 GovInfo president Anne Armstrong has named Jennifer Weiss as vice president and group president. (Actually, Armstrong broke it on her blog.)

Weiss is a veteran of the government IT market. She worked for Government Computer News back when I was there way back in the day. She since went on to other non-government IT groups, but… she is back at it.

Weiss replaces Evilee Ebb, who left that post to join TechTarget… before that, the job was held by Jeff Calore, the publisher at Hanley Wood Business Media and previously served as 1105 GovInfo’s general manager. And she is married to Larry Rosenfeld, the co-founder and chief executive offier of Sage Communications. (Sage recently announced a merger with JDG Communications.)

The release from 1105 Media:

Jennifer Weiss Joins 1105 as VP, Group Publisher

(FALLS CHURCH, VA., August 11, 2009) — 1105 Government Information Group, a division of 1105 Media, Inc., announced that Jennifer Weiss is joining the company as Vice President, Group Publisher. She will be responsible for all print and online activities for Defense Systems, Federal Computer Week, Government Computer News (GCN), Washington Technology, Security Products, Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S), and Environmental Protection.

“We are very pleased that a knowledgeable and energetic publishing executive, with roots in the government market, will be joining our team,” said Anne A. Armstrong, President of 1105 Government Information Group. “Jennifer has deep experience in managing integrated media platforms and in adapting traditional publishing products to the new interactive, online marketplace.”

Weiss comes to 1105 after seven years at SourceMedia (formerly Thomson Media), rising from managing the insurance publications and products to serving as Vice President and Group Publisher of the Investment Advisor Group, which includes Financial Planning, On Wall Street, and Bank Investment Consultant magazines. During her time at SourceMedia, she worked to develop the custom business and to build their online business through webinars and other e-products.

Early in her career, Weiss spent six years at GCN, when it was part of Post Newsweek Tech Media, as District Sales Manager and later as National Sales Director of GCN State and Local magazine.

“I’m very excited about returning to the government market and being a part of these leading brands,“ said Weiss. “Technology has never been a more important contributor to the mission of government. I’m also looking forward to working closely with our partners to help them develop innovative and successful marketing programs.”
