Many changes could be coming to federal pay and benefits. The House voted to increase federal employees' retirement contributions, effectively cutting federal take-home pay by 5 percent.
But will those changes keep more younger workers from going fed?
Tyler Robinson, the director of research at Young Government Leaders joined In Depth to discuss whether pay freezes and cuts has deterred young people from seeking federal employment.
Tim McManus — Vice President for Education and Outreach, Partnership for Public Service
Your agency now has a "pathway" to attracting talent for the future.
The Office of Personnel Management officially released this week the Pathways program for recruiting students and recent college graduates.
Tim McManus, the vice president for education and outreach at the Partnership for Public Service, joins In Depth to discuss how the new plan will help agencies attract new talent.
The Partnership is also holding an event May 23 titled "Creating Pathways to Success: Developing and Guiding Talent at Your Agency," that aims to help federal managers develop training mechanists to attract, educate and retain employees.
Rob Burton — Partner, Venable law firm
Joe Jordan, the former contracting chief at the Small Business Administration, defended his qualifications to serve as the head of the Office of Federal Procurement Policy at his confirmation hearings this week.
Some senators questioned whether he had enough experience for the job. Jordan has less experience than the previous five OFPP administrators and his predecessor Dan Gordon spent 20 years in federal procurement.
Rob Burton, a partner at the Venable law firm and a former deputy administrator and acting administrator at OFPP, joins In Depth to discuss what the next OFPP administrators needs in the way of experience.
Jaime Gracia — President and CEO of Seville Government Consulting
Transparency in service contracting has become a problem across government. For example, the Defense Department has struggled even to put together an inventory its service contracts.
But the solution may be relatively easy, according to Jaime Gracia, the president and CEO of Seville Government Consulting.
"This is a 'big data' problem, as the requirements for transparency are not possible given the current data collection processes and systems anywhere," Gracia wrote in a post on the Federal Contractor Network.
