  • Today is Defense Secretary Robert Gates‘ last day on the job. He has held this position for almost 5 years. He will be replaced by C.I.A director Leon Panetta.
  • General David Petraeus has been approved to become the next CIA director. He has been in charge of U.S.-led international forces in Afghanistan and is a 37-year Army veteran. He will replace Leon Panetta who left to become the Defense secretary.
  • Agency chief financial officers must decide on three broad initiatives that will save their agency money. Danny Werfel is the Office of Management and Budget’s controller. He says in memo to agency CFOs that the cost-cutting efforts should include disposal of real property, consolidation of technology systems and improving inventory controls.
  • Federal employees are happier than private sector employees…..except when it comes to their work environment. A Gallup poll found federal workers are less likely to have positive relationships with their supervisors. They say this indicates government jobs have a “more traditional, subordinating work environment.”
