GAO: DoD overestimated housing costs

The Defense Department has significantly underestimated the amount of money it needs to pay for service members housing allowances.

The Defense Department has significantly underestimated the amount of money it needs to pay for service members housing allowances.

A Government Accountability Office report says since 2006 the Pentagon has miscalculated the housing allowance costs by as much as 11 percent.

And now to fix the problem the DoD is forced to take money from other programs. GAO says taking money from other programs is putting those programs in danger.
