These are the stories Federal News Radio reporters are working on today.

  • Two federal employee unions are encouraging their members to call members of Congress and make them explain the impact of a government shutdown. The National Treasury Employees Union and the National Federation of Federal Employees say April 5 should be Federal Employee Call-In Day where you and your colleagues call their members of Congress and ask them to avoid a government shutdown at all costs. Federal News Radio’s Jason Miller has details on why NTEU and NFFE believe these phone calls will help avoid a government shutdown.
  • Postmaster General Pat Donahoe heads to Capitol Hill tomorrow, where he’ll try to convince skeptical lawmakers that a new contract with the American Postal Workers’ Union is a good deal for the Postal Service. Federal News Radio’s Jared Serbu describes how Donahoe intends to press his case for other cost cutting measures at USPS, like eliminating Saturday mail delivery.
