A change is being made in Afghanistan.

Defense Secretary Robert Gates announced yesterday that Lt. Gen. Stanley McChrystal, a senior administrator with the Joint Chiefs of Staff, will take the place of Gen. David McKiernan once he is confirmed by the Senate.

Lt. Gen. David M. Rodriguez will become McChrystal’s deputy upon Senate confirmation.

Secretary Gates talked about the change, and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Admiral Michael Mullen joined him to answer questions from reporters.
