Being a leader doesn’t have to mean managing or supervising people. The Defense Department gives leadership training to all civilian employees whether they’re destined for a cubicle or an E-Ring office. Dave Rude, DoD’s chief learning officer for the civilian workforce, spoke with Tom about the challenges of this approach to training and development. Tom caught up with Rude recently at the Human Capital Management Government Training Event.

NASA is saying goodbye to its widely successful student challenge, the Great Moonbuggy Race. Instead, it is launching a new contest to get high school students excited about space. The competition allows teams to create versions of NASA’S Curiosity Mars rover, which are vehicles designed to roam around far-out surfaces. Frank Six is the University Affairs Officer at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama. He spoke with Tom and Emily about the NASA Human Exploration Rover Challenge.
