GSA expands discounted commodity IT program

The General Services Administration announced Thursday it had awarded blanket-purchase agreements to 43 small businesses to provide agencies with discounted commodity IT through the agency's National Information Technology Commodity Program (NITCP).
The NITCP is designed to provide agencies a one-stop shop for the most commonly purchased, low-cost IT products.
The purchase agreements include computers, tablets, mobile devices, video-teleconferencing equipment and data-center equipment.
The program helps to reduce costs by allowing the agencies to pool their shopping lists together and leverage the government's significant buying power.
"The savings for government agencies and the opportunities for small business are substantial when you consider GSA sells approximately $1.7 billion annually in IT products," said Mary Davie, the acting commissioner of GSA's Federal Acquisition Service.
The BPAs offer agencies automatic discounts depending on how much they purchase and additional customer-negotiated discounts.
All of the companies on the latest purchase agreements are small business, including women-owned, disadvantaged, veteran-owned or service-disabled veteran-owned businesses.
