Oracle Corporation has published an emergency update to patch a dangerous hole in its Java web browser software. The vulnerability has been used in recent days to attack and disable Windows PCs.

Computerworld reports, several security firms have tested the patch and say it works. Before the patch, the security community was warning people to disable or uninstall Java plug-ins from their browsers.

Oracle has made the patch available at its website. The company says its server and standalone desktop software were unaffected by the security hole.
