Jan Fedarcyk — Outgoing Chief of the FBI’s New York office

Fedarcyk was the highest-ranking woman in U.S. law enforcement outside of Washington until yesterday. She resigned as head of the FBI’s New York office. That capped a 25-year career with the Bureau. Fedarcyk contributed to the FBI’s makeover as a proactive counter-terrorism force following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

The Defense Department recently took a new look at what it will have to spend over the next decade or so on rocket launches. It got a nasty surprise. The future price tag has doubled, to an estimated $70 billion. Yet DoD has no choice. It’s got to get the satellites into space somehow.
