Fedarcyk was the highest-ranking woman in U.S. law enforcement outside of Washington until yesterday. She resigned as head of the FBI’s New York office. That capped a 25-year career with the Bureau. Fedarcyk contributed to the FBI’s makeover as a proactive counter-terrorism force following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
