Social media has become part of everyday life for many federal managers. Whether they tweet, blog or post videos to YouTube, they can never forget they’re on agency time and wearing the agency hat.

The General Services Administration (GSA) has devised a social media guide for its employees. The Social Media Navigator defines social media, discusses what “official use” of social media means and outlines responsibilities for using social media properly.

The guide also describes “the use of social media technologies hosted outside of federal government servers, social media technologies hosted on internal federal government servers, and [an] individual user’s responsibilities when accessing social media services in either environment in an official capacity.”

Federal News Radio spoke with Jacke Zeheir, director of the IT Policy & Compliance Division in the GSA CIO’s office, about the guide.
