Major changes are coming to the administration’s military and security leadership. CIA Director Leon Panetta will replace Defense Secretary Robert Gates. General David Petraeus will replace Panetta at the CIA. And Lieutenant General John Allen, who commanded troops in Iraq, will take over Petraeus’ slot to lead U.S. and NATO forces in Afghanistan. First we asked Associated Press White House Correspondent Mark Smith whether any of these appointments were head-scratchers. Then we spoke with WFED National Security Correspondent JJ Green about why the changes were being made, and about the challenges facing the new team.
