DISA wants a deal to cut satellite costs

The Defense Information Systems Agency is asking industry for proposals to cut the tab for satellite communications in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The Defense Information Systems Agency asks industry for proposals to cut the tab for satellite communications in Iraq and Afghanistan. NextGov reports, the annual bill is about $500 million. DISA believes a 15-year lease of a single satellite could cut that figure to around $30 million. The one satellite could meet 78 percent of Central Command’s requirements. Proposals are due today. Bruce Bennett is DISA’s director for satellite communications. He says users in Afghanistan want the same level of broadband as available in the United States.
