House Armed Services Committee members from both parties pushed against the Pentagon’s cost-saving plans to reduce the size of the Army and Marine Corps. Committee members cited the recent unrest in the Middle East as a potential example for why the military may need to sustain a larger ground force. Gov Exec reports that Defense Secretary Robert Gates explained the reduction in force would not begin until 2015.
